On the island of Kosrae, 68% of the surveyed households (N=363) experienced adverse effects of coastal erosion caused by sea level rise and storm surges. Most households reported damage to crops, trees and houses. 60.0% adopted measures to reduce the impact of coastal erosion, such as building seawalls, reinforcing houses, planting trees along the coastline and moving to upland areas. For 92% of this group, the measures were not enough or entailed extra costs.
